WHO AM I?

I graduated from Queen Margaret College in Edinburgh with an Honours degree in physiotherapy in 1994.  My first job in Edinburgh gave me experience in a wide range of physiotherapy areas.  I then chose to specialise in musculoskeletal outpatient physiotherapy which I have continued since 1998.

I have worked in a variety of outpatient settings within the NHS.  In 2008 I started to work one session per week at GSK Montrose which has given me valuable experience of occupational physiotherapy within an industrial setting.

I have completed post graduate education and courses in: clinical decison making for musculoskeletal physiotherapists masters module; movement dysfunction of the lumbar spine, pelvis, neck and shoulder; Jeremy Lewis' shoulder course; Society of Medicine peripheral modules; Myofascial release; acupuncture; adverse neural tension; Mulligan's mobilsation with movement course; muscle energy techniques; various knee, strapping and foot biomechanic courses.

I have been involved in and chaired the Tayside acupuncture practice development group since it started which includes a variety of professionals. This has involved organising courses and continuing professional development opportunities, along with standardising the guidelines for use of acupuncture.  I am a member of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists.

I am commited to continuing my professional development and keeping up to date with evidenced based practice.

MY APPROACH

I strongly believe that the best treatment outcome is through a patient centred approach. I do this by taking a full history including what the problem is, previous medical history, find out about you - occupation and hobbies, what you expect from physiotherapy and what you hope to be able to do following it. Following a full physical assessment of the area, treatment options and goals will be discussed and a treatment plan will be made from this.
